At Chapters we have a strong sense of the importance of helping... we usually support the human kind but when we heard about a lovely little place called Kays Hill Animal Sanctuary (a local charity), we decided to offer them a helping hand too.
The sanctuary take in a whole host of different animals but have a lot of cats that need love and care until they can be re-homed. Times are hard but the animals still need feeding so we decided to collect food on their behalf. Staff and students very generously donated into the collection and we were very proud to hand over the following to the sanctuary volunteer, becky who is just a wondeful person who works tirelessly fundraising and caring for the animals. We love you Becky x
We collected 4 large bags of dry food, 12 boxes of dry food, 24 tins and 126 pouches of cat food... Thank you to everyone who very kindly donated x
Then along came Easter! We just can't resist doing our little bit so when Bikewise advertised their Easter egg run for 2011 we decided to get involved. Durham police organise the event for bikers to ride between local hospitals to deliver Easter eggs to children who are sick over the Easter period. They also continue to collect eggs and money that gets distributed over the following week or so to children's units, hospices etc. What a fab thing for Chapters to do - Students very kindly donated 18 Easter eggs for us to contribute to the collection and we added a further 3 ourselves so there will be over 20 kids with chocolatey faces because of us this Easter! Thank you to the very generous students who contributed an egg, we appreciate your support xxx
Christmas is always an important time for families so after doing some work for a women's refuge and seeing first hand how children are affected by their experiences, we decided to do something to help them. One of the things that the children most enjoy doing that was identified by the play worker at the refuge is baking. So we got collecting both money and gifts of baking ingredients!! As you can see we ended up with 2 big boxes full that went to the refuge in time for the Christmas holidays. The staff were stoked and the kids have been entertained for hours! Their thank you card was home made and absolutely gorgeous!
And before we know it, Easter comes again and so it's time to pull the motorbike out and head off on the Easter egg run with Durham Police and Bikewise. I believe there were in excess of 800 bikes there so a great turnout.
As with our seemingly new tradition...we collected eggs in the centre and asked students if they would be willing to donate an egg for the children who would be in hospital over Easter. I can't tell you how heart warming it is to see how generous our students have been yet again. This year we took 36 eggs in total, how fab. Thank you again to Chapters staff and students x
And here we are with the Diploma 2013-15 group who kindly agreed to help us collect money for Breast Cancer Care. The students donated money, pink cakes and goodies for our pink coffee morning and wore every shade of pink possible!!
Together the students raised just over £70 which Chapters doubled to send over £140 to the charity...note Sharon's rather tasty pink balloon boobs!!!
